Georgia man, 4 kids killed in interstate crash

ATLANTA — Four children and one adult from Georgia were killed in an Interstate 10 crash in the Florida Panhandle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Sabrina Turk, 32, was driving east in a Honda Civic on Sunday afternoon near Grand Ridge, Florida when the vehicle crossed the center line for an unknown reason and skidded into the oncoming lanes, according to a crash report.

Troopers say no one in the car was wearing a seat belt, and five were ejected and died on scene.

Turk remains in critical condition.

A Ford F-150 pickup hit the car's passenger side, ejecting Turk's boyfriend, Lysander Smith, 43, from the passenger seat.

Her four children Qwasander, Kavargale, Tymalique, Epiphanie ages 6-11, were ejected from the backseat, FHP spokesman James Johnson said.

Records show that the victims lived in Winder and in Ellenwood.

"I feel sorry for them and for me being a mother, I wouldn't want to lose my kids in that way or any type of way," former neighbor Mona Lisa Shabazz told Channel 2's Carl Willis.

Former neighbors say they remember the gatherings and the times the family spent together.

"They used to play a lot and be outside all of the time. Happy," Shabazz said.

"It's going to make me hold them a little bit tighter tonight. And pray because I have to go to work tomorrow at three so we're going to be on the road," Shabazz said.

Troopers also say two dogs were killed in the crash. No one in the other vehicle received life-threatening injuries.

Investigators have not said if any charges will be filed.
