Ga. Tech students rally to carry guns

ATLANTA,None — A group of Georgia Tech students rallied on Tuesday for the right to carry guns on campus.

The Georgia Tech College Republicans sponsored the event.

"From my experience, the people who have concealed carry licenses are the most responsible people," said the chairman of the Georgia Tech Republicans, Adries Celedon.

The rally was held the day after a Georgia Tech student was beaten and robbed near campus.

In that incident, police said the criminals pointed a gun at the student, kicked and punched him in the face and stole his wallet and cellphone.

Within the last few months, Atlanta and Georgia Tech police have investigated several robberies and assaults involving students.

Supporters of the rally handed out fliers and buttons to students.  One button read, "Guns save lives."

Not all of the students Channel 2's Erica Byfield spoke to believe students should be allowed to carry guns on campus.
