After the car drove off, a passerby stopped and called for help.

“Our arriving officers found two women, both in their seventies, with critical injuries who were transported to a local hospital for treatment,” Roswell Officer Tim Lupo told Channel 2′s Tom Regan.

During the investigation, officers found pieces of the car that had hit the women. From there, they were able to determine the make and model.

“Using that information they were able to apply our new Roswell Crime Center that integrates local area license plate readers and from there, identify the driver and the vehicle,” Lupo said.

Within hours, police arrested 17-year-old Gerardo Ordaz at an apartment complex in Gwinnett County. Police Ordaz was driving without a license.

Neighbors say many people speed on Roxburgh Drive, but residents are divided on whether to install speed bumps or sidewalks.

“I feel so bad for them. It’s definitely alarming because there are a lot of kids in the neighborhood and adults running and walking, including me.” said neighbor Monica Burrell.
