Fulton officials say 2nd recount will cost county taxpayers $150,000

Fulton County started scanning ballots for the election recount Wednesday morning.

County officials told Channel 2′s Justin Gray that they have about 50 people working to feed 13 high-speed scanners.

They are working Wednesday, then taking Thursday and Friday off for the holiday, and then returning to finish over the weekend.

The work is taking place at the Georgia World Congress Center. The county is streaming the whole event live on their YouTube channel.

The recount is happening in every county of Georgia, as requested by the Trump campaign. They have the right to request that under Georgia law because the final result was within 0.5%.

Chairman of Fulton County’s Board of Commission said they need to get this done before Tuesday because that’s when they have the runoff election to fill the late John Lewis’s seat.

“This is a very transparent process so you can see the observers looking over our shoulders so that everything is above board,” Robb Pitts said.

Fulton County said it expects this second recount to cost the county about $150,000. The first hand count already cost county taxpayers about $200,000.

The deadline from the state is for all this to be done by Wednesday at midnight.
