108-year-old Fulton teacher helping class 30 years younger stay active

PALMETTO, Ga. — A group of 70-and 80-year-olds go to exercise class every morning. Their teacher just turned 108.

Channel 2′s Berndt Petersen was at the Palmetto Park Senior Living Community Wednesday, where every morning, Neva Peacock gets things started with a little tune.

“I like the songs. Hymns. H-Y-M-N-S,” Peacock said. “That’s right before the E-X-E-R-C-I-S-E. We just keep the whole body moving.”

Neva began leading the daily workout around the age of 85. She just celebrated her 108th birthday and Palmetto Park threw her a big party.

“She definitely has that personality of mentoring, and she’s such a wise lady,” Activities Director Charlie Koehl said.

Peacock was born in 1914. She was married for 58 years and spent more than 20 of those teaching in elementary school.

She’s still teaching some youngsters, mostly in their 70s and 80s, that they have to get their exercise.

“Come on up! Keep moving. You’ll be 108!” Peacock encourages them.

Neva says her class meets every morning except Sunday, which is church day.
