Fulton deputy seriously hurt in crash

ATLANTA — A Fulton County sheriff’s deputy is in serious condition after a wreck in southwest Atlanta.

Overnight, Channel 2 Action News crews watched as a wrecker towed his crushed, mangled patrol car on Boat Rock Road.

Fulton County police and sheriff’s office officials said the deputy was heading to a call involving a fight with weapons. While en route, he lost control of the squad car and veered off the road.

The car flipped and landed upside, barely missing a large rock.

The deputy was able to tell dispatch he was in an accident and that he was on Boat Rock Road.

Police say firefighters had to cut him out of the car before paramedics rushed him to a hospital.

Sheriff’s officials have not released the deputy’s name. He is alert and talking, doctors said.
