Friends of murdered Acworth couple work to raise money to provide for their 2-year-old left behind

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Just weeks after a Cherokee County firefighter and his wife were found murdered inside their Cobb County home, firefighters are working hard to help raise money for the couple’s 2-year-old son.

Justin and Amber Hicks were found shot to death inside their Acworth home last month. The couple’s 2-year-old son Jacob was found unharmed inside the home.

On Thursday, friends of the slain couple told Channel 2 Action News about their efforts to help raise money for the couple’s 2-year-old son. It’s called The Jacobs Pathway Foundation, a nonprofit that will raise money for Jacob.

“We were brothers in every sense of the word and it’s hard to find a friendship like that,” said Tyler Davidson, who worked with Hicks. Davidson also helped to come up with the idea.

“Justin and Amber would have done a great job raising Jacob, so we feel like it’s our job to kind of offset some of these costs they are going to incur over the long term of raising Jacob,” he added.

Firefighters who worked with Justin told Channel 2 Action News that he and Amber were thrilled to become parents.

“I remember when his son was born,” said Lieutenant David Miller. “He was just so happy to have his son and celebrate the life and just love on his wife and love on his son.”
