Flesh-eating bacteria forces amputation surgery for Gwinnett County woman

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — The family of Cindy Martinez, a Gwinnett County woman battling a flesh-eating bacteria, says doctors have amputated both her feet and her right hand.

Martinez' husband David Martinez says the doctors are working to save his wife's left hand, but she may still loose some fingers.

Doctors at Gwinnett Medical Center aren’t sure how Martinez was infected with the rare bacteria.

Last week, a fundraiser for the Martinez family drew nearly 200 people. Money raised during that event is being used to help with medical costs associated with battling the flesh-eating medical bills.

A separate online fundraiser has helped raise nearly $60,000 on a GoFundMe website.
