2 killed in Sandy Springs fire; firefighters injured

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Three firefighters are recovering after pulling two people out of a burning Sandy Springs home.

The fire department said when crews had to force their way into a duplex on North River Parkway early Monday morning. Once inside, they found a man in his 50s and a woman in her 80s, both in cardiac arrest. The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office said both people have died.

One firefighter hurt his knee while getting the woman out of the home. Another burned his hand when the flames inside the home rekindled. The third was overcome by heat.

The firefighters are expected to be OK.
