Father arrested on DUI charge with 3 kids in backseat

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Alpharetta police arrested an Atlanta man on charges of DUI and child endangerment after stopping his car along Georgia 400 south of Windward Parkway.

A police report states the driver, Ashok Kapoor, 47, was driving 81 mph in a 65 mph zone. The report quotes the driver as saying he had attended a house party and consumed a beer.

The officer stated the driver was swaying during a field sobriety evaluation and was unable to maintain his balance.

The incident report, dated Sept. 1, indicates the driver took an alcohol breath test that resulted in a reading above the legal limit.

The officer asked the driver the age of the three children in the back seat. The driver responded ages 11, 13 and 15. Police arrested the driver and arranged to have his children taken home.

"They observed the driver speeding. He was stopped for speeding. He was intoxicated. And the officer discovered three children in the car. It's simply unacceptable," said Alpharetta Executive Police Officer George Gordon.

The driver faces a court appearance next month.
