Police, family members go door-to-door for information in Atlanta 12-year-old’s murder

ATLANTA — Atlanta police and family members spent the day going door-to-door for answers in a 12-year-old boy’s death.

It has been two weeks since David Mack’s father, brother and sister found his body in a wooded area off Shirley Street. No arrests have been and the family has very few answers as to what led to his murder.

At least two dozen investigators and officers including Atlanta Police Chief Rodney Bryant and city council members assisted members of the Mack family with canvassing the neighborhood.

They broke up into groups to pass out flyers and ask for any information in the case.

“This is my community, all around here. I know someone knows something, whether they are ready to come forward. I just need someone to come forward. If you have Ring doorbells that faces the police, please let police look at it. I just need some help,” Mack’s grandmother Glenda Mack said.

Mack was shot multiple times in a wooded area along a concrete drainage creek that runs behind homes in the neighborhood. He wasn’t found until the next day, but detectives have narrowed his death down to around 3 p.m. on Feb. 9.

They are not sure who he was with or if he was with anyone at the time.

Family said he was going to meet a friend to play football. They became worried that night when it started getting dark and he didn’t come home. They reported him missing. He was found dead the next day.

Crime Stoppers Atlanta is offering a $10,000 reward for any information.

Bryant said nothing is too small and that’s why his department is out there canvassing, trying to get as much information as possible.

“This is so troubling that we’re out here for a 12 year old. But we assured the family, this community and this city that city of Atlanta Police Department will continue to work very diligently until we get some resolve,” he said.
