Family of Kendrick Johnson continues to seek answers to questions that surround his death

GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — The family of Kendrick Johnson has been dealing with his untimely death for more than eight years.

There have been lingering questions about the death of Jaqueline Johnson’s son, Kendrick.

“It took me back to the first time I heard he was killed,” Jaqueline Johnson said.

Recently, there was another blow to her efforts as she pushes for a murder investigation. Kendrick’s body was found in 2013 inside a rolled up wrestling mat at the Lowndes County High School gym. The death was ruled an accident. The Lowndes County Sheriff said a reported audio tape of a man confessing to killing Kendrick is fake.

“He has admitted he made the tape himself,” Sheriff Ashley Paulk said.

Paulk said the publicly unnamed man is jailed on other charges. Jaqueline Johnson so far hasn’t answered questions about getting the tape.

“This man has been charged before with false statements,” Paulk said.

The Johnson family attorney Clint Rucker said Jaqueline Johnson soon will answer some written questions, but the family wants to have it’s own experts analyze the tape. They still believe it could be real.

“It just behooves us to get a third party company like the sheriff did,” said Marcus Coleman, a family spokesman.
