Family: 11-year-old boy died saving little sister's life

CHESTER, S.C. — The family of an 11-year-old boy hit and killed while walking to the school bus says he's a hero.

La'Darious Wylie died saving his 7-year-old sister from being hit by a car, the sibling's mother told Channel 9's news partners at The Herald.

“He knew to look out for her,” Elizaberth McCrorey said.

La’Darious was struck and killed by a car while he and his sister were walking to the school bus stop on Oct. 27.

La'Darious lunged and pushed his sister, Sha'Vonta, out of the way, their mother told The Herald.

The car sped away and Chester police later arrested and charged Michelle Johnson, 57, in the hit-and-run death.

“I don’t hate her, I just wish she had stopped,” McCrorey said.

La’Darious died at the hospital.

Family members decided to donate his organs to help save another life, but nothing eases their pain.

"It hurts me really bad, to see part of the family gone like that, because you know we're all going to miss him," his grandfather Tommy Evans said.

GoFundMe page has also been set up to help the family.
