Elderly woman pulled from burning car by teenage grandson

ATLANTA — A teenager is being hailed as a hero after rescuing his 85-year-old grandmother trapped in a burning car.

Three people were inside a car going north on Peachtree Street Wednesday evening when the car burst into flames.

Fourteen-year-old Ural Waters and his mother, Germaine Waters, bailed out of the car, but Dollie Waters, who was driving, was stuck in the car.

"My grandson said it was a fire, and I thought he was joking with me, to tell you the truth," Dollie Waters said. "I was boxed in. I had my seatbelt on. I couldn't do anything."

Ural said he tried to pull his grandmother out of the car, but he could not get the door open.

"Both of the doors. Something got stuck," Ural said.

A good Samaritan saw what was happening and jumped in to help.

"And we kept pushing, and pushing and we got her out," Ural said.

The family's car is now just a shell. Firefighters spent hours extinguishing the flames.

Ural said he is thankful for the good Samaritan who left the scene as quickly as he appeared.

No one was injured in the fire. The cause of the fire is not known.
