Driver in stolen car sends police on high-speed chase

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A driver has been arrested after sending police on a chase involving a car stolen at a Clayton County gas station.

Channel 2 Action News is working to get the name of the driver who police said led officers on a high-speed chase Friday night then tried to get away on foot.

Atlanta police said the Nissan was taken in an armed carjacking Thursday afternoon at a Clayton County gas station. An officer spotted the car Friday night near Turner Field and pursued the Nissan driver down to I-85 near Virginia Avenue in south Fulton County, where the suspect was arrested.

Atlanta police Sgt. Angela Blue said three young women were also in the stolen vehicle. She said they were cooperative with police.

“The young ladies stayed in the vehicle. (They were) very compliant. They didn’t try to run. They didn’t resist. All the orders given, they complied with,” Blue said.

Police found a stolen gun in the car. They are trying to determine if it was the same one used in the carjacking and how the driver arrested was involved in the original crime. They are also trying to figure out if the three women were involved in the carjacking.
