Driver flips into tree, dies in Marietta

MARIETTA, Ga. — Marietta police are investigating a deadly crash on a busy road early Wednesday.

The crash happened around 1:40 a.m. on Whitlock Avenue. Police said the driver of a black 2001 Jeep Cherokee was killed. The road was shut down while authorities cleared the scene.

"The driver lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, struck a fence and overturned into a tree," said Marietta Police Officer Michael Gardner. "The driver was killed instantly."

The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Craig Morrissey, of Roswell. Police said there was no one else in the car at the time.

"We don't know if there was any alcohol or drugs involved at this time. We are looking into that," Gardner said.
