Dramatic arrest of suspect connected to car theft captured on surveillance video

ATLANTA — Channel 2 Action News has obtained camera footage capturing the dramatic arrest of a robbery suspect.

The owner Taxman Son and Associates in southwest Atlanta gave Channel 2's Christian Jennings surveillance video that shows an officer take down one of four men accused of robbing a valet worker at gunpoint at the Embassy Suites in Buckhead.

In the video, one of the suspects runs from around the corner on Boulder Park Drive in southwest Atlanta through a parking lot. An Atlanta police officer is hot on his trail, but quickly diverts his attention to his left, tackling another suspect to the ground.

The video shows as the officer struggles with the man, another officer runs up.

Police said the investigation began around 4:15 early Tuesday morning when the valet driver handed over the keys to a Rolls Royce.

"Then they entered the office and held the victim at gunpoint and demanded the keys to the Rolls Royce," said Investigator James White with Atlanta Police Department.

Investigators said the suspects split up, leaving the Buckhead hotel in the red car they came in and the Rolls Royce they stole.

About nine hours later, White said officers spotted the Rolls Royce before it fled once the drivers noticed law enforcement.

Police said two of the robbery suspects were in the luxury car.

Detectives said while on the road, the men hit another car with a 30-year-old woman and 9-year-old boy inside. Then they ditched the Rolls Royce at Boulder Park and Martin Luther King Jr., according to police.

"They fled and officers were able to apprehend two suspects," White said.

Now, two of the suspects connected to the robbery are in custody. Police said 17-year-old Shamar Woods and 19-year-old Jauvoric Griffin will face robbery and hit-and-run charges.

The hit-and-run victims are OK. Police said they have minor injuries but did go to the hospital to get checked out.
