Downed trees block metro Atlanta roads

ATLANTA — Georgia Power crews are working to restore electricity after a tree fell on power lines, causing issues for drivers on Mount Paran Road.

The northwest Atlanta road is blocked off between Mount Paran Church and Cornerstone Bank as crews work to replace the lines that were ripped down by a tree Thursday morning after a morning of heavy rain.

Georgia Power said it expects to have the lines completely repaired and the road reopened late Thursday afternoon.

In Cobb County, Olive Springs Road is closed due to a fallen tree. An oak tree fell across the road around 9 a.m.

Residents told Channel 2's Ross Cavitt the tree shook their houses and fell minutes after a school bus picked children up nearby.

Power is out in the immediate area and crews expect it to take several hours to clean up the mess.
