Deputies: Man chases girls on scavenger hunt

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Cherokee County deputies are looking for a man who followed children playing in a Canton subdivision during a birthday party.

The incident happened Sunday in a subdivision off Steels Bridge Road, according to Cherokee County Sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker. A man told deputies that his 11-year-old daughter and her friends were on a scavenger hunt when a man left his car and chased the girls.

Channel 2's Linda Stouffer found a deputy on patrol in the area Friday morning. They said they are sending out information to residents alerting them of the incident.

"Two of the girls reported a car pull up, white male got out, looked unusual and pointed at them and said, 'You,' and (was) coming towards them. Supposedly, he chased them to the woods, and he got away from them and left the area," Baker told Stouffer.

He said deputies were unable to find the man when they arrived. Parents were upset about the news.

"My biggest concern is their safety, can't be with them every second of every day," Adam Blackman told Stouffer.

The man is believed to have been driving a silver 2000 four-door passenger car, possibly an Audi, Volkswagen Jetta or Honda. Baker said it has scratches or small dents and tinted windows. He said the tag numbers may end with 697. Anyone who sees the car is asked to call 911.
