• DeKalb residents discuss prospect of new cities

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - DeKalb County residents got a chance Thursday today to speak out about proposals for new cities.

Senate Bill 270 is the only bill to make it by crossover day. It would create the new city of Lakeside.

Residents packed a hearing in downtown Atlanta to speak for and against that bill.

Many are upset about Lakeside's overlapping boundaries with the proposed cities of Tucker and Briarcliff.

Senate Bill 270 passed the Senate 32-18. There's no word yet on when it will be on the House floor.

Some believe the issue is dividing neighborhoods.

There are separate movements to consider cityhood for Tucker, Briarcliff and Northlake.
