Lyft driver shot twice by customer she was picking up, police say

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A Lyft driver is in serious condition after she was shot by a man she was picking up.

Police said the woman arrived shortly after midnight to pick up the suspect, and after stopping at a Citgo gas station at Rockbridge Road and Harriston Way in Stone Mountain, the suspect tried to rob her.

The woman was then shot twice.

After being shot, she pulled out of the parking lot, crossed the street and crashed up an embankment.

Police found the woman in the crashed car on Rockbridge Road, not far from the gas station.

Channel 2's Audrey Washington was the first reporter to get her hands on surveillance video from the gas station that showed the shooting.

The victim hasn't been identified but police said she is 25 years old and is expected to survive.

Authorities are searching for the suspect.

Police said they are checking with the rideshare company to see if they can track down the passenger’s information.
