1 arrested, 1 still on the run after 6 shot, 3 killed on Mother’s Day at DeKalb condo complex

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police have arrested one suspect after six people were shot, killing three, on Mother’s Day at the Brannon Hill Condominium in DeKalb, officials said.

Investigators identified the suspect Ofieo Ojego, 25. He is being charged with one count of felony murder and aggravated assult.

Another shooter is still on the run.

Just after 7 p.m. Sunday, police received calls of a person shot in the 6500 block of Old Hampton Drive.

When officers arrived to the scene, they found five people had been shot, police said.

Ambulances transported two people to nearby hospitals in serious condition.

Three people died on the scene.

Police said a sixth person arrived at a local hospital in serious condition shortly after.

None of the victims have been identified.

Investigators announced Monday that a suspect had been arrested in connection to the shooting and is being charged with one count of murder and one count of aggravated assault.

Officers said warrants have been sworn out for another person not in custody. That person will be charged with three counts of murder.

Police have not given a motive for the shooting or said what sparked the confrontation.

Channel 2′s Larry Spruill was at the condo complex Monday, where there was still police tape in the trash and evidence markers on the ground.

Neighbors in the building said that the shooting started in one unit and bullets started flying into the hall.

A neighbor who didn’t want to be identified said this is nothing new.

“This is not the first time that there has been shootings,” the neighbor said.

Neighbors said that the shooting is a terrible situation and another reason the area needs help.

“The problem is alcohol, drugs and prostitution,” one neighbor said. “It’s not safe. That’s why I’m trying to get out.”

DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond issued a statement Monday morning, saying:

“DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond has directed Police Chief Mirtha Ramos to allocate all necessary resources to investigate the deadly shootings at Brannon Hill Condominium on May 8 to bring those responsible to justice.”
