DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - A DeKalb County apartment complex is a crime scene early Wednesday morning after a shootout left three people dead.

Channel 2’s Darryn Moore watched officers with protective gear and guns move in on the apartment complex, where a robber ambushed two men and tried to rob them.

    All three are dead.

Detectives told Moore that the victims were in the parking lot of the Indian Valley Apartment Complex drinking beer when a man approached them and pulled out a gun.

“I believe the one tried to rob the two, a struggle ensued over the firearm and everyone got shot,” said DeKalb County Police Capt. A.W. Ford.

Detectives said before the victims died, one of them took the robber's gun and shot him.

A witness told police that the shooter ran toward Northern Avenue and was limping like he had been shot.

Officers followed a trail of blood and found the suspect dead in the woods. The suspect was later identified as 23-year-old Jaquarvius Harrison.

“There was a gunfight, and everybody lost,” Ford said.

Ford said at least 10 shots were fired and not one bullet hit any units or cars in the lot.

Gloria Ellison lives next door and said she heard some shots late Tuesday night but didn’t realize they were actually gunshots until she saw all the police cars.

"I don’t feel safe as it is out here, but when you hear something so close to you like this, it really makes you even more concerned," she said.

Ellison said she won’t be walking her dog through here anymore.

"You never know who is coming into the neighborhood, and we probably need to get a neighborhood watch or something of that sort," she said.

Witnesses said they saw the three men wrestling for the gun, and police believe all three men were killed with the same gun.

The names of the two victims have not yet been released.
