Michele Wilson was shocked when she noticed hundreds of pieces of mail dumped in this ravine by her home on villa drive in DeKalb County.

“It took me about 20 minutes to collect it and scale back up after I tumbled down and scraped my leg,” Wilson said.

She posted a photo on her Nextdoor app, and neighbors immediately chimed in to say they were missing important documents.

“Tax documents, medical forms, bank statements W2s,” Wilson said. “Probably 200-300 pieces of mail, and that was just Friday. Then I woke up Saturday and there was new mail there on the hill.”

She and her husband picked up the new pile of mail on Sunday, then turned it in to the Ralph McGill Distribution Center Monday morning.

“Some of the mail had rubber bands around it. None of the mail was open. I think if it was theft we would have seen some open envelopes,” Wilson said.

A spokesperson for U.S. Postal Service Office of the Inspector General told Jennings they are investigating to determine who is behind this and working to get the mail sorted and delivered to the right customers as soon as possible.
