Police seek 2 robbers who shot Uber driver

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police are searching for two men who they said shot an Uber driver and robbed passengers in front of a southeast Atlanta home.

Channel 2's Nicole Carr was the first reporter on the scene during Channel 2 Action News This Morning.

The shooting happened before 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning on Bouldercrest Road, when the Uber driver dropped off a father and daughter at a home.

Police told Carr that one of the gunmen held the father and daughter at gunpoint and asked for their belongings. The daughter tossed her cellphone and wallet to the suspects, which then gave them a chance to run to safety, and that’s when the suspects shot the Uber driver, according to police.

The driver was hit in the side and was listed as stable at a local hospital.

Carr saw one of the passenger victims, who expressed no interest in talking about the ordeal.

Atlanta police said that prior to the driver being shot, two men followed the passengers into their home as they were taking luggage in.

“When he was trying to close the door, he felt a tug on the door, a male with a handgun proceeded to enter the house, made demands for property, at which point the daughter tossed her iPhone and her wallet to the male,” Atlanta police Capt. David Villaroel said.

At that point, the two men ran out of the home, shot the Uber driver and dropped the passenger's stolen phone a few blocks from the scene, police said.

Police said it is unclear whether they ever got into a car.

The father and daughter were not injured.
