Investigators believe there was some sort of argument between the panhandler and the suspect before shots were fired.
Police have not located the shooter, but hope surveillance footage from the restaurant and other nearby businesses will help them piece together what happened.
We’re checking with police to see if there is surveillance video of the shooting, for updates on Channel 2 Action News starting at 4 p.m.
A clerk at a nearby QuikTrip told Channel 2's Lauren Pozen a man ran into the gas station shortly after the incident and told them his friend had been shot.
The injured person was taken to a hospital, where they remain in critical condition, authorities said.
