DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Detectives are searching for the person who shot and killed a man at a DeKalb County apartment
Neighbors called 911 after the shooting. They told investigators they heard the gunfire and when officers arrived, they found a man dead in one of the apartment units.
Overnight homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were in and out of the apartment building on Tree Mountain Parkway in DeKalb County.
Officers found the body of 19-year-old Journey Jones shot dead inside a bottom-floor unit. %
It happened late Sunday night at the Park on East Ponce apartment complex after neighbors reported hearing gunshots.
"We're all hurt, like, this is really shocking because he's so young and he just has so much that he could have done," Jones' friend, Tiara Lopes, said.
Besides the victim, there were two dogs inside the unit. Animal control took the dogs to a shelter.
Detectives are not saying much about the case, but crime scene investigators collected bags of evidence.
Police said they believe the shooting may have been drug-related.
Lopes said she is worried the shooting may have been gang-related.
"It looks like this gang violence needs to be stopped. I mean, it a better way to talk about things than to pick up a gun and shoot somebody," she said.
