14-year-old boy arrested in connection with gun scare at high school

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with a gun scare at Stephenson High School in DeKalb County on Tuesday, officials said.

The school was placed on a Level 3 lockdown after a female student reported seeing a boy with a gun get on and off her school bus.

DeKalb County School District Police Chief Bradley Gober told our partners at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution there was no student with a gun.

"All students and faculty are safe. DCSD Police Officers and DeKalb County Police are on-site and will remain on campus. The school has been swept and the building is safe," the district said in a statement.

Channel 2's Aaron Diamant spoke with students who described the tense moments police flooded hallways.

"Police came in with large guns, you know, saying: 'Is anybody in here? Is there anything in here that's not supposed to be in here?'" 10th grade student Kamaya King said. "It was scary, because that's the first time I've ever been in a situation like this."

"Everybody just started freaking out. People started crying. People was on the phone with their parents and stuff," student Devon Jackson said.

"First, I had to pray. I just prayed about it and from there, I just let it be in his hands," senior Savion Brooks Aubert said.

Geraldine Robison was one of dozens of parents and grandparents who raced to the school, scared, when they got word of the lockdown.

"My grandson called, crying: 'Grandmama, come and get me. Come and get me,' and I said, 'For what?'" Robinson said.

After the arrest, the school remained on a Level 1 lockdown and students resumed their normal schedules.

No other details have been released about the suspect or what charges he faces. Since the boy police arrested is underage, the district will likely not release his name.
