Good Samaritan rescues 3 kids from DeKalb Co. fire

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A neighbor rushed to help when three children were trapped inside a burning home Monday morning.

Eddie Hamilton told Channel 2's Dave Huddleston he pulled two children from the home before running back in to pull a teenager from the home.

"Smoke was all the way down to the floor. You couldn't see anything you couldn't breath inside," Hamilton said. "I went to the window twice, got air, crawled back in there again until I could find him."

Firefighters said they saw Hamilton at the home when they arrived. He had already rescued a 2-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl by breaking a window and pulling them out. He had to climb into the home to pull out a 17-year-old.

"Stay low, just feel for them. It worked this time," Hamilton said.

All three survived. The teenager is in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital. The other two suffered minor injuries.

The home is located at 3244 Blue Bird Lane.
