Fallen Coweta County deputy’s son baptized nearly 2 years after his death

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — The son of a fallen Coweta County deputy has been baptized almost two years after his death.

Edmond Irvin, 25, was shot and killed in an off-duty confrontation with a teenage cousin in May 2019. Irvin’s fiancee, Evelyn, was five months pregnant at the time.

Sheriff Lenn Wood told Channel 2 Action News Irvin and his cousin, 17-year-old Danny Long, got into an argument in the backyard of their family home.

Neighbors who heard the argument said Long threatened to kill everyone in the house before they heard gunshots. They said moments later, the teen took off. He was later caught and charged with murder and making threats.

On Sunday, the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office posted a bittersweet update about Irvin’s financee and child.

“Yesterday was a big day for our favorite little buddy. Edmond and Evelyn’s baby boy, Elijah, was baptized,” the sheriff’s office wrote. “It was a beautiful ceremony for a beautiful family. Evelyn and Elijah, we are family for life.”

The Sheriff’s Office set up a GoFundMe account to help support the family and establish a fund in Elijah Irvin’s name.

“ALL proceeds will be placed into a trust fund in the name of Deputy Irvin’s son and will be used to ensure that his child is provided with the opportunity for a college education that his father would want him to have,” the sheriff’s office wrote.
