Couple searching for dog finds man's body near reservoir in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Detectives are questioning neighbors after a couple and their dog found a body near a reservoir in Henry County.

An 18-year-old man and his girlfriend were looking for his dog, Shadow, when they made the gruesome discovery Tuesday afternoon.

The Henry County Police Department confirmed with Channel 2 Action News that the body of a man was found in the wood line of Highland Drive at Highway 42 in Stockbridge.

"Yeah, it's really strange. I'm shocked," said homeowner Jim Kirby.

Neighbors who live close to the scene are wondering how the body got there and why it was left there.

"I was a little bit surprised because, like I say, it's usually a quiet neighborhood," said Kirby.

Police talked to neighbors in hopes of finding answers.

"Just talking to the neighbors and doing a canvass and trying to determine who this individual is and why they're in the wood line," said Captain Joey Smith of the Henry County Police Department.

Channel 2's Tom Jones saw several evidence cones around the scene. Police said the body was protected from the elements.

"It's covered with some type of item. I don't know if it's a tarp or sheet," said Smith.

Jones also saw plastic cups in the wooded area which could indicate that someone hangs out there regularly.

Jim Kirby told us he was happy he was not the one who made the discovery.

"I don't know. That would be scary," said Kirby.

A sign nearby said the area is under surveillance 24 hours a day.The surveillance could help investigators.
