Couple gives birth on side of road in Smyrna

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A couple delivered a baby girl on the side of the road with the help of a 911 operator after becoming stuck in traffic in Smyrna.

According to Smyrna police, Joshua Hendricks called 911 just after 8 a.m. Tuesday when he realized he wouldn't be able to make it to the hospital.

His wife, Virginia Hendricks, was already in labor when traffic stopped completely on Ridge Road near Atlanta Road.

Smyrna communications officer Tammy Morrical took the 911 call and told Joshua Hendricks to pull to the side of the road. That is when she began to give instructions to help with the labor.

Through Morrical's assistance, the couple was able to give birth to the healthy baby girl.

Soon after paramedics arrived and transported the family to a local hospital, where mom and child were reportedly happy and healthy.
