Convoy of Care: How you can help victims of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas

ATLANTA — Channel 2 Action News has activated our Convoy of Care to help gather donations for Hurricane Dorian victims in the Bahamas.

We are collecting everything from personal hygiene items to baby products to first aid kits again on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, numerous Channel 2 Action News viewers donated critical supplies.

Vivian Timmons came out to help after seeing devastating video emerge from the Bahamas on WSB-TV.

"I just knew I had to do something," Timmons said. "Some little thing. And if a few more people would do just a little bit, that would go a long way, I think."

Melissa Brooks also saw the need and answered Channel 2's call for help.

"It's really devastating and anything I can do to help, I'd like to do," Brooks said.

Herschel Evans works for the Georgia Motor Trucking Association and will help transport donations.

"If what we can send them helps ease them a little bit or helps them get through the next day or two," Evans said. "It's worth the effort."

Delta Airlines is donating a plane to take the items we collect to the Bahamas.

BAHAMAS TOURISM

Officials say you can also help by booking a vacation to the 26 islands in the Bahamas that were not impacted by Hurricane Dorian.

"If you have a vacation planned, don't cancel, unless it was planned to Abaco or Grand Bahamas. Don't cancel ... we need the support of our economic engine which is tourism," said Astra Armbrister-Rolle, with Bahamas Consulate General Atlanta.

WSB-TV is partnering with Caring for Others, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, News 95.5 WSB, B98.5, KISS 104.1 and 97.1 The River to help the storm-ravaged communities.
