Construction worker struck in Woodstock hit-and-run

WOODSTOCK, Ga. — A driver is accused of critically injuring a construction worker in a hit-and-run crash Friday morning, Woodstock police said.

The crash happened on Interstate 575 South near Towne Lake Parkway around 9:30 a.m. One southbound lane of the highway was shut down while police investigated.

The victim was taken to Kennestone Hospital to be treated.

Police were looking for a gray 2006 GMC Sierra with the license plate, BNQ3491 but found it wrecked later in the afternoon. The driver, 53-year-old Kenneth Gonzalez, is facing drunken driving and hit-and-run charges.

Officers warned drivers to be careful.

"I encourage anyone to slow down when entering a construction zone. The speed limit does reduce, and anyone is advised to drive with caution," Woodstock police spokeswoman Brittany Duncan said.
