Customers flocking to metro Atlanta businesses for UGA gear

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Small businesses across metro Atlanta are looking for ways to get people prepared for Monday’s national championship between UGA and TCU, and are seeing more customers come into their stores.

Channel 2′s Michael Seiden went to Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery in East Cobb Friday where the owner told him January tends to be a slow period, but orders are flying in thanks to the Georgia Bulldogs.

Grant Prata says people are ordering custom UGA cupcakes and cakes for their watch parties left and right.

“Some custom cakes, Georgia-themed red and black, things like that, but the big day will be Monday,” he said. “We will bring in some extra staff and we will have bakers working throughout the day.”

A UGA graduate himself, Prata says he wishes he could be there in person, but knows the game is good for business.

“There’s a month where everyone is hitting the gyms and they want to take a diet, and cupcakes aren’t the first thing in everybody’s mind, so to have the national championship big football game local, especially with Dawgs in it, it’s an awesome opportunity to keep things rolling,” he explained.

If you’re a TCU fan, Prata says you’ll have to wait until after Monday to get a custom cake.

MORE GEORGIA BULLDOGS:

If you’re looking for something to wear to a watch party, Seiden also stopped by The College Station for all things apparel.

“Getting a shirt for Monday night. Gotta have something new for the big game,” shopper Anna Wagner said. “We actually rented out a movie theater to host a bunch of friends and clients to watch the game with everyone all together.”

“If Georgia wins, I’m sure we’ll do like five times the amount of sales we usually do,” employee Keyur Mistri said.
