Woman says Airbnb renters tore apart her home

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — We've told you about Airbnb horror stories, and now a Clayton County family says no one will pay for the damage to their home.

Homeowner Sunnie Moriarty said renters destroyed part of their pool, including a ladder left in pieces.

“I left and came back to destruction," she said.

She told Channel 2's Justin Wilfon she rented out her home in Morrow to a young woman who claimed she wanted to spend a chill day by the pool. Instead, Moriarty said, the renter and her friends went wild.

“My pool was completely black. I couldn’t tell what had happened," she said.

Moriarty said the partiers threw her potted plants into the pool, tore off the pool ladders, and ripped off part of a tree before using it to club this table and her grill.

“They had just beat it to a pulp," she said.

Neighbors told her they heard gunshots at the party and there were signs of drug use. When the partiers left, Moriarty said they left her with a hefty repair bill.

“It’s over $8,000," she said.

much like another party we reported on at an airbnb, sunnie says one year after the damage was done at her house, she's still begging airbnb to pay for it, despite their $1 million host guarantee.

"Their system is set up for it not to work for the host. They just want to get their money," Moriarty said.

In a statement, Airbnb told said,

"Our original handling of this incident did not meet the high standards we set for ourselves and we apologize to Ms. Moriarty for the delay. We will be processing the Host Guarantee claim as soon as possible."
