Lock your doors! Manhunt underway for man who pointed gun at deputies

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Deputies in Clayton County are warning people to lock their doors as a manhunt is underway for a person who pointed a gun at a deputy.

The search is unfolding along Godby Road and Jones Circle. That is close to Interstate 285 and Old National Highway.

When Channel 2's Justin Wilfon got to the scene Monday afternoon, he found a large police presence with a mobile command center and plenty of deputies taking part in the search. So far, they've had no signs of the gunman.

Wilfon met parent Honey Moore as she was waiting for her child to get off the school bus – right in the middle of where the manhunt was going on.

"Very shocking to hear," Moore said. "It's going to be really challenging to tell a child, an elementary child, what's going on in their neighborhood."

Clayton County sheriff's deputies said it appears the gunman ditched a bike during the pursuit to stop him.

"It's pretty dangerous stuff. They'll hopefully catch the guy, you know?" neighbor Michael Duncan said.

Wilfon said he saw several deputies carrying assault rifles as the search went on in the neighborhood.

Neighbors were asked to be on the lookout.

"They just said they've seen an African-American gentleman with a pair of fatigue pants on," Duncan told Wilfon.

On Monday night, deputies were seen leaving a nearby apartment with evidence bags.

Deputies said the man has short facial hair, tattoos all over his body and was wearing a satchel with no shoes and multicolored sweat pants.

Police said he also appeared to be wearing gang attire with a green crown on his head. Anyone who sees the man is asked to call 911 immediately.
