Local school district partners with foundation to help assess parents’ homes for virtual learning

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga — Clayton County Public Schools are preparing parents to start the new school year with virtual learning. The district partnered with the Foundation for Educational Success for parents to assess their home learning environment and learn where they’re excelling, and which areas need more attention.

“We’ve kind of deputized parents as the teacher,” said Dr. Ralph Simpson, Deputy Superintendent of Clayton County Public Schools.

The parental promotion began in March when schools closed and went all virtual. Clayton County Public Schools will remain in this model to start the new school year so, the district equipped parents for student success at home.

“Now we need to re-imagine parental engagement,” said Reggie Beaty, Co-founder of the Foundation for Educational Success.

FFES started the parental portal, which is an online assessment for parents to learn about making virtual learning a success. FFES has partnered with the district for the past three years.

“So they’ll have a road map to success in terms of creating that environment, that culture that’s going to be conducive to learning,” Beaty said.

FFES makes an action plan to implement new best practices for students and it guides parents in taking the foundation of a culture and climate for learning from the school and put it in the home.

Simpson recognizes that many parents are supportive, but that support changed.

The FFES Parent Portal makes their support more deliberate and intentional with this resource that supports parents, according to Beaty.

The portal launches nationwide Tuesday, August 11, 2020, you can visit the website here.
