Employees, inmates at Clayton County Jail say freezing weekend weather made jail conditions worse

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Inmates and employees say conditions at the Clayton County Jail are worse than normal after freezing weekend temperatures wreaked havoc.

“The power was out for three days,” said Tenille Davis.

Cell phone video recorded by an employee and sent to Channel 2′s Ashli Lincoln shows a restroom out of order for several days after a pipe burst and low water pressure.

“I’m very shocked, because I never thought the employees would be experiencing anything like this,” Lenza Holliman.

Holliman, whose son is awaiting trial for a domestic related dispute, told her his unit doesn’t have any heat.

“He just stated it was extremely cold, they had no heat,” said Holliman.

Davis’ brother says none of the toilets are working in his unit.

“He told me there was only one toilet at this time,” Davis said.

Lincoln found Clayton County closed their Youth Development Justice Center Tuesday because of low water pressure. Clayton County is still under a boil water order, as many neighboring businesses are continuing to deal with low water pressure.

Channel 2 made calls and sent several emails to the Sherriff’s Office for a comment, but no one was available.

On Wednesday afternoon, Clayton County’s Water Authority said they are seeing slow improvements with the county’s water pressure.
