Clayton County family says nightmare is over after arrest made in loved one’s death

MORROW, Ga. — The family of a 22-year-old Clayton County man says they feel like their nightmare is over after police have made an arrest in the death of their loved one.

Tyree Davis’ family says he was hit by one car on Mt. Zion Road in Morrow last month before several other cars ran over him, ultimately killing him.

Since that day, family members have been pleading for answers as to who is responsible for their loved one’s death.

“It was traumatizing, it was like a bad dream everyday,” said Tyshae Davis, Tyree Davis’ sister.

Morrow police have now arrested Willie Barnes and charged him with Tyree Davis’ death. He is facing charges of homicide by vehicle and hit and run.

“Immediate shock, we were told that, don’t get our hopes up because cases like this go unsolved every day,” Tyshae Davis told Channel 2′s Ashli Lincoln.

“I was elated for the work the police put in to resolve it, but I was still broken-hearted all over again as it just happened,” Tyree Davis’ mother Susethia Wilkerson said.

They say that people bringing tips to police is what they believe solved their loved one’s case.

“Someone was watching this story, which caused an uproar which lead to them calling the police,” Tyshae Davis said.

Tyree Davis’ family hopes his tragedy will help encourage people with information in other other hit and run cases to come forward and give those families closures as well.

“At the end of the day, this could be you or your loved one, and you’d hate to be in the shoes where you couldn’t get any answers,” Tyshae Davis said.

“Slow down, pay attention, like is at stake out there,” Wilkerson said.
