Police make arrest in Waffle House triple shooting

LOVEJOY, Ga. — Clayton County police have made an arrest in a Waffle House shooting that injured three people early Sunday.

With information gathered from the scene, police located and conducted a traffic stop on the suspect's vehicle, which led to 21-year-old Deuntae Jones, of Riverdale.

Channel 2's Amanda Cook spoke to four servers at the restaurant on Tara Boulevard in Lovejoy, where a large group came in at about 12:30 a.m. The servers said the group appeared to be upset and a fight quickly broke out. The chaotic scene spilled into the parking lot. That's when five shots were fired and three people were wounded.

Two victims were taken to a hospital from the restaurant and the third person ran to a nearby Savannah Suites Hotel for unknown reasons. Police said the person was transported from the hotel to a hospital.

The Waffle House was closed for several hours after the incident as workers tried to clean up the big mess the group left behind.

Jones, the alleged shooter, is facing several charges, including affray, three counts of aggravated assault, carrying a concealed weapon, reckless conduct and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Police said the victims received non-life-threatening injuries.

The case is still under investigation.
