Cherokee schools locked down in search for armed robber

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities have captured a suspected armed robber after a search caused two Cherokee County schools to shut down.

Channel 2 reporter Ross Cavitt said around 7:40 a.m., five men burst into a home on Doubltree Road in the Acworth area. Cavitt said residents confronted the home invaders and neighbors reported hearing shots fired.

Police arrested four men, but a fifth was sought along Mohawk Trail, just over the Cobb County line into Cherokee County. He was captured before 11 a.m.

Clark Creek Elementary School STEM Academy and Oak Grove Elementary School Fine Arts Academy were on lockdown.
