CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — Officials with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said a man drowned while drying to save his stepchild at a lake in Carroll County Saturday.
Officials said Stefon Hunt-O’Neal, 26, was on a boat with another adult and a child on Lake Seaton. The child, who was wearing a life jacket, fell in the water.

Hunt-O’Neal jumped in the water to help. The child was able to get back on the boat. O’Neal tried to swim back to the bank and went under.
Game wardens located his body with side scan sonar around midnight.
The child’s identity has not been released.
