CARROLLTON, Ga. — A former employee of an assisted living facility has been arrested after she was accused of stealing her residents’ medicine.

On Monday, officers were called to The Stewart House in Carrollton in reference to the theft of medication by an employee.
Jessica Leanne Smith, 30, of Heflin, Alabama, is charged with unauthorized distribution of a controlled substance and theft by taking.

According to investigators, part of Smith’s job was to hand out prescribed medications to the residents.
Police said she kept over 100 pills, including hydrocodone and oxycodone for her own use during the month of June.

Smith was arrested and booked at the Carroll County Jail.
