Car burglary suspects arrested after chase

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga.,None — Two people accused of stealing from cars were nabbed after fleeing from police and crashing, Douglasville police said.

Channel 2’s Ross Cavitt went to the intersection of Midway Road and Highway 92, where officers were investigating the crash scene Friday morning.

Police said they were looking for two men who were stealing from cars earlier in the day. They said they spotted a blue Ford Fusion believed to be involved and chased down the suspects.

Officers laid out stop sticks on Fairburn Road, which blew at least one tire of the Fusion. A nearby taxi driver tried to get out of the way, but a tire from the fusion rammed the taxi.

The Fusion then sideswiped another car and hit a work truck and a semitrailer at the intersection of Fairburn and Midway roads, police said. They said the driver ran out but was quickly caught. The passenger, who was trapped in the car, was arrested.

No one was seriously hurt.

The drivers of the taxi and the semitrailer both owned their vehicles. They said the crash will put them out of business for a while.
