Video shows missing woman wandering before death

ELLENWOOD, Ga. — Henry County investigators found the body of a missing 72-year-old woman Saturday morning.

Lucilla Harris of Atlanta had been missing since Nov. 23. Harris's family said she suffered from dementia.

Henry County police reported Friday they had found her car off White Castles Drive in Ellenwood.

After continuing a ground search Saturday morning, police soon found Harris's body in a wooded area near Breezewood Court, the same location where she was last seen, police said.

"(It appears) that she laid down," said Henry County Police Sgt. Joey Smith.

Neighbor Archie Moore believes his surveillance camera captured Harris going up a set of back steps and onto a deck.

"It shows her walking up to the door and then at 3:43 it shows her walking back," he explained.

Moore says no one was at the vacant house early Monday.

The video clip shows what Moore believes is Harris shuffling around in slippers with a purse over her shoulder. She is seen wearing a nightgown and a thin coat with a hood. Police are waiting on an autopsy for confirmation and with overnight lows in the 20s, they believe cold weather was a factor.

Channel 2 Action News asked police how it took five days to identify the car that belonged to Harris.

"We have evidence to show it's connected to a crime or a missing person we'll impound it immediately, but in this case we just didn't have that information," Smith said.

Channel 2 Action News will stay in touch with investigators about the autopsy results.
