Bear raids bird feeder

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Sandy Springs police got a flurry of calls regarding a black bear at a Sandy Springs home this week.

The bear climbed onto the second-floor deck of a condo blocks from Interstate 285. It happened around 10 p.m. Monday.

Resident Brian Williams sent Channel 2's Jeff Dore photos of the bear sniffing around the deck. The bear was there to raid a bird feeder.

A state wildlife expert said the bear probably left his mother recently and has been following creeks and streams, searching for food.

The expert said the young bears typically don't hurt humans, but he credits neighbors for keeping their distance.
