Thousands without power after severe storms slam metro Atlanta

ATLANTA — At least 4,000 Georgia Power customers are without power as another day of powerful storms hit parts of metro Atlanta.

Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said the storm left downed trees and power lines and standing water on roads in its path.

A severe thunderstorm warning including parts of Rockdale, DeKalb, Fayette, Henry, Coweta, South Fulton and Clayton counties expired Monday night.

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport tweeted out that there was a ground stop there because of the weather.

The ground stop was later lifted.

Nitz said today will have the most widespread risk of rain and storms this week.
