#StayStrongJoslyn: Marching band dedicates season to teen attacked by pit bulls

BARROW COUNTY, Ga — Monday would have been the first day of school for 15-year-old Joslyn Stinchcomb. The teen was excited for her freshman year and especially looked forward to being in the Winder-Barrow High School marching band.

But a walk in her neighborhood July 31 changed everything. Two pit bulls attacked Joslyn and now she is fighting for her life in the intensive care unit at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

The Winder community has rallied behind Joslyn and her family by raising money to help with medical bills and show their support. That now includes a kind gesture from her classmates this fall.

The Winder-Barrow marching band is dedicating its season to Josyln and all members will wear #StayStrongJoslyn during their performances this season.

“Joslyn wanted very much to be a part of the WBHS Bulldogg marching band and SHE IS! Her Marching Dogg family wants her to know that even though she won’t be able to be on the field with us physically this season she will be there with them in their hearts. Her spot will remain open on the field and every member will have #StayStrongJoslyn on the sleeves of our show shirts that we wear for every performance,” according to the band’s Facebook post.

The marching band is also coordinating with the football team and cheerleaders, who will have #StayStrongJosyln stickers on their helmets and megaphones. A few football players dropped off a signed jersey for Joslyn on Sunday.

We are so blessed to have such a caring BulldoGG family! When the players learned of Joslyn's injuries from the dog...

Stinchcomb has had multiple surgeries over the past few weeks and her family is afraid she won’t be able to speak on her own.

A PayPal fundraiser has been set up to help the family with medical expenses. The family also has a Facebook group that you can join for updates on her recovery. Get well soon cards may also be sent to PO Box 1502, Winder, GA 30680.

The pit bulls were both euthanized and the dog owner is facing charges. The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office said it is still an open investigation.
