Stores and shoppers alike getting ready for Black Friday in metro Atlanta

ATLANTA — While many stores in the metro Atlanta area won’t be kicking off their Black Friday deals until early Friday morning, some stores and shoppers are getting a head start on the savings.

Lines at the Game Stop in Chamblee Village wrapped around the building as early as Thursday afternoon.

“I’m buying the PS5 and I’ve been in line like five and a half hours,” said young shopper Adam Schoonover.

Schoonover told Channel 2′s Michele Newell that he knows if you want to score a hot item on Black Friday, you’re going to have to wait.

After having a Thanksgiving meal, shoppers across the metro hit the stores in search of the best deals.

Caroline Jones says she found those deals at the Big Lots of Chamblee Tucker Road in DeKalb County and left with her trunk packed to the very top.

“On Black Friday, honestly, it’s so crowded, I can’t handle it. I have claustrophobia, so coming here today was like a good idea to get away from the crowds,” Jones said.

Jones was just one of many shoppers at Big Lots on Thursday.

Sandra Gonzalez-Flores says this is just the beginning; she’ll be back at it on Black Friday.

“The previous year, with COVID and stuff, nobody was able to shop, but now it’s good to shop,” she told Newell.

Many popular retailers, like Target, Walmart and Amazon, have focused on online deals throughout the week.

For people like Jones who do most of their shopping online, the supply chain shortage is making everything more difficult.

“There’s a lot of shipping problems, a lot of shortages of things that I need, even online out of stock, out of stock, out of stock it’s really bad so yeah there’s a problem,” Jones said.
